日本の芸術作品の代表格「刀」

両国の刀剣博物館や上野の国立東京博物館には世界中から 「刀剣男子」や 「刀剣女子」が集まってきてます。そんな時、さりげなく太刀と刀の違いを英語で教えてあげてモテモテになっちゃおう♪

まずは太刀から・・

Tachi sword

  • Tachi is a long sword, 60cm or longer and slightly curved with the cutting edge facing down.
    太刀は60㎝以上の長さで刃先が下を向いています。
  • The Samurai warriors held Tachi sword on their waist while riding horse.
    さむらいは太刀を腰にさげて馬に乗っていました。
  • Tachi was made so long as to cut the enemy along with the horse.
    太刀が長いのは、敵を馬もろとも切りつけるためでした。

Katana sword

Katana

  • Samurai invented a compact and light sword, later.
    後にさむらいはコンパクトで軽い刀を生み出しました。

  • Katana is short and curves less with the cutting edge facing up.
    刀は短く刃先が上を向いています。
  • Samurai wore it tucked in the obi sash.
    さむらいは帯に刀を差していました。
